NEBYL

Games for small children

Games that never were

Nebyl is a rare Russian word for that which never was: a tall tale, an invention, a bedtime story. We make learning games for children aged 2–5 — the kind a child plays alone, and a parent never has to pay twice for, apologise for, or pry out of small hands in tears.

Our first game What we stand for

The Nebyl mark: a hut on chicken legs inside a ring of folk house carving, one warm window and a crescent moon.

Our games

One so far, and we would rather say it plainly: we chose to finish the first one properly instead of shipping five half-done.

Seventeen learning games for children aged 2–5: shapes, colours, counting, memory, jigsaws, tracing. Plus a timer that ends the session instead of the parent.

The next game

In progress. The mechanics already built would carry about twenty more games without a line of new code — what is left is art and testing on real children.

What we stand for

Not a wish list — the rules by which we turn decisions down. Every one of them cost us either money or work.

No advertising

No banners, no rewarded video, no links out. A child should never end up anywhere but in the game.

We collect no data

No name, no age, no location, no access to camera or photos. Progress lives in the device’s own memory and goes nowhere.

Works without internet

In the car, on a plane, at the cottage. The network is needed once — at the moment of purchase, and even then on the store’s side.

Purchases sit behind a lock

Settings and payment are hidden behind an arithmetic question. A child never reaches the payment sheet: consent to spend is not theirs to give.

One purchase, not a subscription

Pay once — open forever, and it returns on a new device. No monthly charges for a toddler’s game.

The parent sets the limit

The timer is off by default. We do not decide how long your child may play — we hand you the tool and step back.

The studio mark and wordmark: a hut on chicken legs in a ring of carving, the word NEBYL, game development studio.

Why “Nebyl”

Небыль (nebyl) is a rare, bookish Russian word: that which never was. A tall tale, an invention, a story told at bedtime. It reads almost like a made-up word, which is why it fits both a children’s game and a darker grown-up tale. We deliberately refused to lock the studio onto the children’s shelf.

The mark shows a hut on chicken legs — the dwelling of Baba Yaga from Slavic folk tales — inside a ring of traditional house carving. Every decision in it separates “storybook” from “horror”:

The hut leans, one foot tucked up
A hut standing straight is a lair. The lean and the step turn it into a creature on its way somewhere.
One window, and it is warm
Two windows with a door between them were avoided on purpose: that arrangement reads as a face staring back. One amber window and no door at all is a home where someone is waiting.
No pure black anywhere
Plum and indigo instead: a warm night rather than a cold one.
The carved ring
This is what makes it Slavic. The hut alone appears in Western folk horror too; the house carving does not — it reads as folk art.
